Bit of a story, any techs please chime in. Freshly cleaned wheel for your time

Kinja'd!!!

I have two sets of wheels. One set just had tires mounted, and a day after mounting I got a “TPMS Sensor Fault” message in the center console. I ignored it because I was going to take the wheels off soon anyways.

Fast forward 5 days and I take the wheels off. Roll the front left problem wheel and hear something tumble around in the tire. Turns out the TPMS sensor had broken off in the whee. Fantastic.

Anyways, I put on my other set of wheels and drove around for 3 days. TPMS Sensor Fault doesn’t go away. The display shows readings for all the other wheels, nothing for the front left.

So tonight I tried to reprogram TPMS. Did the whole start button thing and got the “Learn Front Left” message. Used the tool that came with the wheels, nothing happened. Tried that 3 or 4 times. Aired the tire up to a few PSI over the suggested pressure, tried again to no success. Tried again by letting air out, no success.

Is there anything else I can do? I’ll go to the dealership I guess, but I figured if there was some way to clear it tonight I might as well try.

Put the wheels with the newly-mounted tires back on and take it back to the shop. They owe you a TPMS sensor and programming. Don’t mention the second set, it’s not their business.

As for the 2nd set, make sure all the sensors are “awake” and in programming mode. Not all tools have the correct capability, so you may have to take to a shop to have them programmed, but it shouldn’t be more than $25.

They replaced the sensor already. Just didn’t program it because I’m on the other set.

I’m using the transmitter that came with the sensors I’m trying to program, both came from Ford

Black electrical tape...

Did that for 3yrs in my WRX because I wasn’t going to pay some stupid amount for new sensors on my aftermaket wheels. I’ve made it many many years without this nanny light on a lot of vehicles.

That’s nice but this is a $43,000 car I daily drive and the sensor is there. I’d rather fix it

$25? With the door rate of most shops that will pay the tech a whopping .2-.3 hours. Very rarely do tpms issues get sorted that quickly. No tech with half a brain will touch it for that.

Pay a little extra and upgrade to the GT350 TPMS sensors. No tool needed to get them working. I have them in my current wheels.
